Vern Yip has been one of HGTV’s most distinguished and well-known designers for over 10 years. He has gained national acclaim for his expertise in transforming homes and restaurants during his four seasons on HGTV’s Trading Spaces and other television shows such as Deserving Designs with Vern Yip, Urban Oasis, Design Star, Bang for Your Buck, and Live in Vern’s House. With an undergraduate education from The University of Virginia, a M.B.A and Master of Architecture from The Georgia Institute of Technology, and a honorary Doctorate from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Vern has used his varied educational background to build a distinguished design company, Vern Yip Designs, based in Atlanta. His creations range in budgets from economical to eight-figure projects for high-end clients. His designs show off his attention to detail coupled with precise, clean-lined interiors balanced with a sense of warmth. He has traveled to nearly fifty countries in the past eight years and his deigns are often influenced from his world travels. Vern has also added New York Times Bestselling Author to his resume with his first book, titles Vern Yip’s Design Wise: Your Smart Guide to a Beautiful Home.

Since 2011, the Women’s Council has presented the Art of Design, a seated luncheon and lecture featuring internationally renowned experts in the world of design. Speakers have included Andrew Prince, Downton Abbey’s Jewelry Designer, Chris Giftos, former Metropolitan Museum of Art floral designer, tastemaker Carolyne Roehm, New York Times Fashion Critic Cathy Horyn, interior designer Charlotte Moss and Hamish Bowles, Vogue’s International Editor at Large. Through this event, the Women’s Council has raised over $400,000 in support of the Gibbes Museum’s exhibition and educational programming. Founded in March 1950 as the Gibbes Art Gallery Auxiliary, the Women’s Council of the Carolina Art Association currently boasts nearly 150 active members. The Women’s Council serves as a vital support system of the Gibbes Museum of Art, with its dedicated members volunteering time, talent and financial support to the museum and serving as liaisons between the Gibbes and both residents of and visitors to the Charleston community. In addition to its annual Art of Design fundraiser, the Women’s Council organizes numerous educational programs and social gatherings from September to June for members and their guests.
